Smuggled liquor worth BD200,000 seized, 21 arrested

MOI:

The Director-General of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science announced on Monday that his department had exposed and arrested a gang of 21 liquor smugglers of various Asian nationalities who had smuggled a large quantity of alcohol products into Bahrain via the sea. They had used a ship to transport sand as a cover for smuggling..

He said an investigation revealed that the workers, after loading the ship and sailing towards territorial waters, received the liquor from a boat in the middle of the sea and smuggled the same into Bahrain through their company’s port with the collusion of others and transferred it to certain warehouses. They would then sell the liquor at low prices and also smuggle some of it to another country.

He said the seizures included vehicles used for transferring the contraband and more than BD36,000 in cash besides liquor products worth more than BD200,000.

Legal steps are being taken to refer the case to the Public Prosecutor.
